Thatched Roof House

The thatched roof house is a typical house of the Montemuro Mountains. Once recovered, it maintains the original architectural features: ground floor, where the animals were kept overnight, and a top floor, which served as family housing.

The construction materials used in the building’s recovery works were selected according to the original construction: walls built with dry stone, small doors, minimum of windows and a thatched roof. Placed in successive layers, the rye straw was stuck with sticks of alder and granite covers to protect it from the harsh winter.

Beyond the building’s educational function, it serves as a support structure for pedestrian trails, routes and tours, or just a span to experience or recreate features of rural life.
